Ladies Nation Clothing Company
This week I want to shine the spotlight on a clothing company that is very close to my heart and a huge source of inspiration for me: Ladies Nation. To the public eye, ladies nation is a women's street wear fashion line, with an emphasis on bringing empowerment to women by encouraging women to support one another and build themselves and each other up, rather than knock each other down. This is exactly the aim of Ladies Nation, but there is so much more to this amazing company.
I met Lana, the founder of Ladies Nation, while I was living in Midtown Manhattan during the summer of 2016. Lana is from Serbia, 29 years old, has no college degree and very limited schooling, and moved to the United States two years ago to live her dream of opening her women's street wear company. Lana has taught herself everything she knows about starting and maintaining a successful business. She began promoting her clothing line on @ladiesnation Instagram, which took off so quickly she could barely keep up with the requests for orders. Today, she has an office in Midtown Manhattan, and just a month ago she officially launched her clothing line on https://ladiesnation.com. She has already received hundreds of orders.
Lana has a very clear vision for her company, and a very specific idea of what it's all about:
Ladies Nation is inspired by the empowering hip hop music of the 90s: Destiny's Child, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Lauryn Hill.. come on ladies, we all have one of these playlists. That one that makes you feel like the baddest bitch on earth. This music is encouraging. It is empowering. It makes you feel like the boss of your own life. It makes you feel limitless and fierce. It makes you feel like you absolutely deserve to be treated with respect.
In a world where women are constantly pitted against each other, competing in the most unhealthy ways, and putting one another down for the sake of being accepted by men, and for being seen as "different," women everywhere need to embrace their power to rise out of this vicious cycle. By encouraging ourselves and others with positive words and actions, we will create a better world, where we stand in solidarity with other women and support our sisters.
As she states in the "About" section on the Ladies Nation webpage, Lana founded Ladies Nation with nothing more than wifi and a dream. Lana worked as hard as necessary to accomplish a mission that she felt would make an impact on women around the world. Never once did she doubt herself. Ladies Nation is an inspiration to women everywhere that they can accomplish anything they want to, regardless of the circumstances they feel are holding them back.
Lana's dream is to play a part in this feminist revolution by adorning her clothing line with encouraging words: RESPECT. BOSS BITCH. FIERCE. LADIES NATION. But, it's more than a clothing line and it's more than just words that scream empowerment. It's a MOVEMENT, and it is one that I could not be prouder to stand behind.
